Construction has commenced at Access Housing property developments that will deliver new and refurbished homes for seniors who wish to remain in their local South West communities as they grow older.
Access Housing’s Royalties for Regions-funded South West Ageing in Place Housing Pilot projects in Boyanup and Dardanup were officially launched onsite today by Member for South West Region Hon. Colin Holt MLC.
The developments will see 14 new seniors homes built at Mitchell Way, Dardanup and another nine units built at Thomas Street, Boyanup. Three existing units at the Boyanup site will benefit from modern refurbishments.
Access Housing Chief Executive Officer Garry Ellender said the company was committed to working with local governments to deliver more affordable, suitable housing options for seniors, particularly in regional areas.
“The ability to ‘age in place’ has fantastic benefits for seniors in regional areas as they can continue to enjoy their existing social, health and other amenity and support networks,” Mr Ellender said.
“Without projects like our Boyanup and Dardanup developments, people approaching their retirement years in regional areas traditionally would have to relocate to larger towns or cities to access housing better suited to their needs.”
The South West Ageing in Place Housing Pilot projects were made possible by a $4.87 million investment through the State Government’s Royalties for Regions program. Access Housing purchased the land and, together with project expenses, has invested $1.5 million into the projects.
Both developments are due for completion in mid-late 2017.
Twelve of the 26 units will be made available for sale to local seniors, with sales proceeds used to fund another seniors housing project in the South West. Access Housing will retain 14 units for affordable rental purposes.
Local seniors can register their interest to purchase or rent one of the units by contacting Access Housing’s South West office on 9722 7200.
