Access Housing celebrated the completion of its 200th built or acquired home at today’s official opening of its affordable housing project at Rockingham.
The modern three-level mixed use development is Access Housing’s 11th constructed project since 2013 and was officially opened by Housing Minister Hon Peter Tinley AM MLA and Access Housing’s Chief Executive Officer Garry Ellender in front of guests including tenants, local dignitaries and project partners.
The development features 28 apartments, four townhouses and three commercial spaces and sits within the Rockingham Strategic Regional Centre Renewal precinct. LandCorp and the City of Rockingham attracted Federal Government funding for the precinct’s development through the Liveable Cities Program and granted Access Housing a portion of this funding to help deliver much needed affordable owner-occupier and rental housing options to inner-city Rockingham.
The complex is located close to public transport routes and interchanges and is only minutes to the Rockingham foreshore. Other amenities such as schools, parks, sporting facilities, Murdoch University campus and Rockingham City Shopping Centre are also close by.
This development is one of three that Access Housing has completed within the City of Rockingham since 2015, delivering an additional 50 new affordable homes to the city. Access Housing has retained 22 for affordable rental purposes, including eight at this development. The company is also nearing completion on its Jervis Rise project at Baldivis, which is comprised of a further 51 affordable apartments and will take Access Housing’s tally of affordable homes delivered in the City of Rockingham past 100.
Mr Ellender extended his thanks to project partners LandCorp and the City of Rockingham for working with Access Housing to deliver more affordable housing options to people in need in the Rockingham area. He said the demand for affordable housing in Rockingham, and more broadly across WA, was still high despite the recent decline in the local property market.
“This project is a good example of how positive affordable housing outcomes can be achieved through partnerships between government agencies, local governments and not-for-profit Community Housing Providers like Access Housing,” Mr Ellender said.
There are limited remaining purchase opportunities within the development for prospective owner-occupiers to buy a home outright or in a shared-equity arrangement with Access Housing through its Home Choice program. There are also opportunities for National Rental Affordability Scheme (NRAS) investors to purchase within the development.
“The property sales to home owners and investors have the benefit of diversifying ownership and tenure, whilst enabling Access Housing to deliver on its affordable housing mandate,” Mr Ellender said.
