Jervis Rise collects prestigious UDIA WA award

Access Housing and project partner BGC Development have claimed the prestigious 2017 Urban Development Institute of Australia (WA) Award for Excellence in the ‘Affordable Development’ category for our Jervis Rise development.

Jervis Rise is the first medium density housing development around the Baldivis town centre and has introduced diverse, upscale and affordable apartment living into an area that is typically characterised by single homes. An impressive three storey complex offering 51 new affordable homes, Jervis Rise provides a range of demographics including singles, couples, investors and downsizers/rightsizers with the kind of quality medium density housing traditionally enjoyed by residents of inner-city areas.

Access Housing Development Manager Duane Moroney was on hand at Saturday night’s awards ceremony at Crown Perth to collect the award on the company’s behalf and joined with BGC Development staff to celebrate Jervis Rise’s success.

“The UDIA WA Awards for Excellence is one of WA’s most respected and valued development industry awards programs to recognise excellence and innovation,” Mr Moroney said.

Jervis Rise was recognised as the best development in WA for both initial affordability as well as the incorporation of sustainable ‘whole of life’ elements that provide for affordability in ongoing running costs. The judges said they were impressed with many aspects of the project including location, design, attention to detail, materials used and specifications, appealing to a wide range of people from first homebuyers through to retirees and showing a high quality, well-designed building can still be affordable.

In addition to claiming the ‘Affordable Development’ award, Jervis Rise was a finalist in the ‘Medium Density’ category.

Jervis Rise is comprised of affordable and innovatively designed one and two bedroom apartments, including some accessibly designed homes for people living with a disability. Access Housing is retaining 12 of the apartments, including the accessible apartments, for affordable rental purposes.

With affordability being the driving force behind all elements of Jervis Rise, the development was approved for the National Rental Affordability Scheme (NRAS). The NRAS creates a unique opportunity to provide low to moderate-income households with rents discounted by a minimum 20% to the market until 2026. The Australian Government initiative provides financial incentives to NRAS investors in order to increase the supply of affordable rental housing.

Being located within a suburb that is predominantly comprised of traditional housing and house and land packages, Jervis Rise represents a significant, socially responsible shift in housing in the Baldivis area, increasing much-desired urban infill and offering a welcomed residential diversity.
