Applications now open for Access Housing’s Advisory Committee of Tenants

10 Jul 2019

Tenants who want to have their say on how Access Housing defines and delivers services are encouraged to apply to join the Access Housing Advisory Committee of Tenants (ACT).

What is the Access Housing ACT?
The Access Housing ACT is a tenant-led group that provides a way for tenants to have their say in what we do and how we deliver our services. As a representative voice for all tenants, the ACT provides a platform for communication between Access Housing and our community of tenants. The ACT will meet at our Rivervale office every two months, with a regional meeting occurring once a year. Tenants and residents from regional areas are encouraged to take part and will be supported to be involved.

What does the ACT do?
As part of the ACT you can:
– provide feedback on Access Housing policies and procedures that directly affect tenants;
– provide a way for tenants to raise issues around policy and service delivery directly to senior Access Housing management staff;
– advise on how Access Housing communicates with tenants;
– plan tenant-led projects and other opportunities for tenants to be involved.

Why join the ACT?
Joining the ACT may help you to:
– have your voice and ideas heard;
– develop new skills;
– get involved in your community and connect with other tenants;
– develop a sense of ownership and responsibility;
– make a difference to other tenants.

Who can be an ACT member?
Any Access Housing tenant or lodge resident can apply to join the Access Housing ACT. Carers of Access Housing tenants can also apply.

The ACT is looking for members who:
– are able to take part in formal meetings on a regular basis;
– can be respectful of different points of view;
– can work well with other tenants and tenant carers;
– can contribute positively and focus on solutions that will be fair for all tenants;
– can adhere to the Access Housing ACT Code of Conduct and Terms of Reference.

Before applying to join the ACT, we recommend reading the ACT Code of Conduct and Terms of Reference, so you can decide if it is right for you. To review these documents please contact Access Housing on 9430 0900 or via amy.kidner@accesshousing.org.au.

How to be involved
Complete this short nomination form and return it to Access Housing by Sunday 1 September 2019. Committee roles will be selected by tenants through a postal voting process (except for General Member roles, which will be selected by a lottery). All tenants will have the opportunity to learn more about the candidates and how to lodge a postal vote in the Spring tenant newsletter. New ACT members will be announced at the first ACT Annual General Meeting, which will be held in October and open to all tenants.
