Access Housing allied for Specialist Disability Accommodation

24 May 2019

Access Housing is proud to be a founding member of the Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) Alliance.

The SDA Alliance brings together some of the nation’s most committed Specialist Disability Accommodation providers and investors. In doing so, the Alliance seeks to provide a unified voice to better support the development of a diverse and sustainable National Disability Insurance Scheme SDA market that empowers people with disability to live full and vibrant lives as active members of their communities facilitated by increased housing choice and control.

The SDA Alliance acts as a national co-ordinating body of ‘new build’ SDA providers and investors in the sector to share information, research and experiences for continuous improvement purposes, whilst constructively collaborating with key decision-makers to support policy development and effective implementation.

Access Housing General Manager – Property Assets Duane Moroney said the company is proud of its role as an SDA Alliance member organisation that is helping to drive best practice in the SDA space.

“Access Housing is proud to be a founding member of SDA Alliance, which is recognition of our already extensive involvement and experience in providing a wide variety of housing options to people living with disabilities,” Duane said.

“The Specialist Disability Accommodation component of the NDIS is complex and challenging and the Alliance enables Access Housing and other sector leaders to provide the platform to ensure the outcomes of the scheme are translated to effective and suitable outcomes for the people involved.”

Since 2013, Access Housing has developed nearly 50 new accessible homes in the Perth metro, Peel and South West regions that are suitable for people living with a disability. Each of these newly constructed homes have a minimum Silver level accessibility rating under Livable Housing Australia guidelines, with many also achieving Gold or Platinum level accessibility ratings.
