Waikiki development officially opened

Access Housing Australia Ltd has further strengthened its commitment to tangibly increasing the supply of affordable housing in Western Australia after officially opening its latest development of nine villas in Waikiki today.

The new complex features a mix of architecturally designed two and three-bedroom villas and is positioned only minutes from the beach, train station, Rockingham City Centre and landscaped parklands. There are numerous facilities located nearby including education campuses, hospitals, community sporting facilities and a range of major shopping centres.

09Access Housing has retained five of the villas for affordable rental housing purposes. The remaining four villas, which were sold to National Rental Affordability Scheme investors, will also be used for affordable housing for tenants on low to moderate incomes.

Access Housing Chief Executive Officer Garry Ellender said the Waikiki development – Access Housing’s fourth current or completed affordable housing project within the City of Rockingham – showcased the company’s significant investment in, and ongoing commitment to, increasing the supply of affordable housing options in local communities.

“This development has brought the total number of affordable housing dwellings built by Access Housing and its partners since 2013 to 160, which includes 125 that we have retained for affordable rental housing purposes,” Mr Ellender said as he officially opened the complex in front of guests including local dignitaries, tenants, local media and complex development partners and suppliers.

Access Housing General Manager – Property Assets Su Groome and City of Rockingham Mayor Barry Sammels cut the ribbon in front of the complex to mark its official opening.

“In addition to these completed dwellings we also have several other affordable housing projects currently under construction or in planning, including three other projects within the City of Rockingham that will deliver 92 additional affordable dwellings for a range of people including singles, families and people living with a disability. These projects will increase the supply of affordable housing in the area. Two thirds will be sold to owner-occupiers and National Rental Affordability Scheme investors.”

Access Housing wishes to acknowledge LandCorp, BGC and the City of Rockingham for their roles in assisting the Waikiki complex to reach completion.

The Waikiki complex is Access Housing’s 10th completed property development and
acquisition project, following on from its previously completed developments including Burley Street, Mandurah (completed February 2013), West Road, Capel (May 2013), Barnes Avenue, Australind (July 2013), Rennie Crescent, Hilton (December 2013), Blue Wren Drive, Eaton (January 2014), Waverley Road, Coolbellup (July 2014), Allnut Street, Mandurah (October 2014), Hines Road, Hilton (March 2015) and Locke Street, Carey Park (May 2015).
