Sausage Sizzle for the Homeless

In support of Homeless Persons' Week 2011, staff from our Mandurah office joined members of the Mandurah Homeless Networking Group to host a sausage sizzle for people who are homeless. The networking group comprises representatives from Mandurah City Council, Peel Soup Kitchen, St Vincent De Pauls, Calvary Youth and WestAuz.

The event was held to not only highlight Homeless Persons' Week 2011, but to also distribute information about services and housing options and gather Census information on homelessness.

Attending from Access Housing were Housing Coordinators Tracy Mackintosh and Ian Thorn, and Receptionist Crystal Widdeson.

Tracy Mackintosh said 'the event was a great success; many homeless persons were given information on housing options and services offered within the Peel Region. The presence of a person to gather Census information will assist the collection of data that may otherwise be difficult to obtain due to their homelessness.'

The event also gave Access Housing the opportunity to network with other agencies working within the Peel Region.
